Who writes this, and why
Dad Refuses Help is a playbook for one reader at one moment: the adult son in the St. Louis metro whose father has fallen, will not let anyone in the house, and still says he is fine. It is not a clinic, not a ranking, and not a sales floor.
Who publishes it
OwnersFirm publishes this site. The company is based in St. Louis and puts out reference desks for households in this metro. This playbook is one of those desks. Nobody writing here is a doctor, and nobody is presented as one. Every page carries a desk byline rather than a named author, on purpose: nobody here should be mistaken for a doctor, a lawyer, or a social worker. New Plan Care is a client of OwnersFirm. The two companies are not commonly owned.
Why it exists
Search for "can you force an elderly parent to accept care" at 2am and most of what comes back is a forum thread, a lecture about stubbornness, or a company's blog. The public documents that actually answer the question, Missouri's guardianship statute, the Adult Abuse and Neglect Hotline, the driver-license medical review, the National Institute on Aging's signs that someone needs help, sit on separate government sites and were not written for a son standing in a kitchen in Ballwin. This desk puts them in the order the night arrives, in plain words, with a link on every fact so you can check it yourself.
How it is cited
Every number, rule and phone number on this site links inline to a public source: a federal or Missouri government page, or a major nonprofit such as the National Institute on Aging, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Family Caregiver Alliance. This desk opened those pages on September 10, 2026 and checked that the wording here matches what they print. The sources page lists all of them, with dates. A claim that does not appear on that list does not belong on these pages.
What this playbook will not do
- It will not tell you what a symptom means, name a disease, or write a treatment plan. Each play includes a heading that hands the medical question to the care team or the physician.
- It will not publish an hourly rate, or a range of rates, for any company that sends help into a house. No public dataset carries those numbers.
- It will not rank, knock, or compare a hospital, a hospice, a facility, or another company.
- It will not invent a statistic, a quote, a review or a testimonial, and it will not use a named composite family.
- It will not drop an analytics tag, a tracking pixel, or a call-tracking number on these pages. The only form posts to this site's own address.
- It will not give legal advice. Public statutes are linked as directories. A power of attorney, a guardianship petition, or a driver report is a job for an elder-law attorney and, where the statute says so, for a court.
The advertising disclosure
One slot on this site is paid. New Plan Care, an independently owned non-medical in-home care company based in Chesterfield, Missouri, is a client of OwnersFirm, which publishes this site, and pays for that slot. It is labelled every time it appears, on the home page and on the article pages where it honestly fits, and it is never a rank, a score or a result of anything written here. The two companies are not commonly owned. The eight plays were not bought, and none of them was written to tilt toward the client. The only form on these pages forwards a name, a phone, and a town to New Plan Care so a person there can return the call. It does not ask about anyone's health, and the form text states that out loud.
Corrections
Public pages change. When a figure on these pages drifts from the document it points to, the document is the authority, and this desk will fix the page on the next review. The sources page prints the day each document was last opened, so you can decide how current a claim looks.
